Bio

Radio Slave began with Matt Edwards taking pop records apart. Around 2000, the South London record collector was making unofficial re-edits and mash-ups—including work around Kylie Minogue—and chose a name that captured his feeling of being tied to radio music. Re-edit culture remained fundamental: Edwards has compared remixing to painting with a palette supplied by somebody else, stretching a record until its strongest details acquire a new life. He later founded Rekids and used a web of aliases—Rekid, Quiet Village, The Machine and others—to keep different tempos and ideas from crowding one identity. Radio Slave itself has never been narrowly fixed; Edwards has released under the name from slow tempos to driving techno, while house remains, in his words, electronic music’s defining sound.
