Pete Tong's career links the club booth, radio studio and the work of finding new artists. His BBC Radio 1 shows brought dance music to a national audience from 1991, with the Essential Mix following in 1993. Alongside broadcasting, his work at London Records and FFRR connected him with artists including Orbital and Goldie.
Ibiza has remained a recurring part of his DJ life, while his involvement in founding the International Music Summit brought another dimension to that relationship. His own productions include partnerships with John Monkman, Paul Rogers and Cristoph, balancing the role of selector with making music himself.
Ibiza Classics began as an orchestral project for the BBC Proms in 2015 with Jules Buckley. It grew into albums and large-scale live shows, including performances at London's O2 and the Hollywood Bowl. Classic House, recorded with the Heritage Orchestra, reached number one in the UK. The idea speaks to a lasting part of Tong's outlook: listeners may leave regular clubbing behind without losing their connection to the music.
