Following up from the deep, dance floor vibes provided by Jimini, Flumo Recordings is happy to present its follow-up slice of sound... an offering for the ears, in the form of the ‘Rumbling Shades EP’ from London based Arnheim. This time it's a five track EP, providing a slower tone but with boiling rhythm, that's specifically shaped for those dark winter evenings. Arnheim opens things up with ‘Shades’, a track which fuses jazzy, percussive elements with haunting vocal effects, to create a piece of music that truly absorbs the listener. You’d expect nothing less from an artist who at the age of just 19, has already dropped 12” releases on the likes of ‘Austere’ and ‘Disrobe Recordings’. Next in line comes a rework from Flumo regular Skinnybone Love, whose take on the original version of ‘Shades’, leads to a stripped down and groove laden piece. Underlying techno beats make it prepped and ready to make waves in dimly lit basements, where dub filled sonics fill the air and countless hours drift away into the darkness. The second remix of ‘Shades’ comes from Italian artist, Nasty Boy, which will cause both dancers and couch listeners alike to melt amongst it’s late night grind. Minimising percussive elements, the focus here is to instead convey depth in repetitive piano and accents of vocals, the result... a track which oozes house, soul and sound. As we move towards the back end of the ‘Rumbling Shades EP’, things are closed off with two more originals from Arnheim. ‘Shallow Rumble’, puts out a moving rhythm, which adds pace to the chant-like grooves of saxophone and speech. ‘Voices of Funky People’ then picks up the tempo, with rusty piano samples offering themselves as the perfect accompaniment to the vocals that stand at the forefront of the track and introducing a tension that is guaranteed to move feet and heat up the dance floor time and time again.
