In the House scene names come and go by the season. What’s hot today can seem cold and stale tomorrow. As every man and his dog takes to being a DJ, the musical landscape is oversaturated, yet seldom fully satisfied. Of course there are those who can withstand the four seasons and still come out smiling. Again. And again. Terence:Terry: is one of those undying staple names. Never too loud and boisterous, yet unrelenting, persistently holding the underground’s stamp of approval.

For the past three years he has ensured his relevancy via his imprint output La Vie En Rose. Pushing through with what he calls “an avant-garde House sound”, the label manager has carefully selected and invested in young talent, acting as their launching platform and mentor. One of these “protégées” is the highly promising Tenerifian Hanfry Martinez, who also happens to be the latest addition to Lola ED, the agency home of Terence, Apollonia, D’julz and more.

The collaboration between Terence and Hanrfry for LVR014 then is an exciting one, it marks the coming together of two generations of House and is the perfect celebration of Hanfry being welcomed into the French Lola family. When asked how the amusing title came about, Terence explains; “For years I was always playing this acapella of Don Cornelius interviewing Marvin Gaye (the American television icon who was running the mythical Soul Train during the 70's). I used it all the time when I was DJing and Hanfry felt in love with it, basically the idea came from there...” Following a studio session together in Tenerife, ‘Cornelius is Gaye’ EP was born.

A two-track package Terence describes the title track as having that “House spirit” while at the same time being a hybrid of weird sounds and freaky voices. ‘Evocation’ brings in the old skool snare and an infectious groove, aided by its sunny tropical vibe of tweeting birds and tribal percussion.

Currently riding a creative wave, look out for Terence:Terry’s three-track EP forthcoming on LVR this October, as well as rumours that he has just finished mixing the first LVR compilation. With remixes also imminent on One Records, Overall and Turquoise Blue, it seems Terence:Terry: will be transcending the changing seasons once again.
