Selective Response

SoCal artist and Tympanum Records co-owner EAS’s rise has been phenomenal. Originally a fan of metal and classic US rock, he began his sonic journey via electronic acts such as Daft Punk and Justice widening his tastes to include the darker, harder side of techno. Now signed to Soma, Perc Trax, and more, his unique take on the industrial sound is lighting up the LA Underground. 

Equally, ground-breaking DJ/producer Selective Response started Crisis of Man as an antithesis of all that came before: “Techno is innovation. Rules are the enemy of innovation. Rules have run techno - for decades. You work it out.” With this in mind, ‘Immortal Flesh’ is an EP with a difference. Across genre, breaks are experiencing a huge renaissance and within the realm of industrial techno, broken beats have sparked incredible creative moments. 

EAS opens with gritty up-tempo drums and scattergun hats on ‘Perfect Immortal Machine’. Wild acid bubbles menacingly in the background as layers of percussive energy draw up further under a spell. Female spoken words break the tension before overdriven drums pound you omnipotently. 

Selective Response’s ‘Prison of Flesh’ takes its time to develop. Huge kickdrums keep time as spiky sonics fill the frequency spectrum. Layers of percussive noise hint at percussion ramping up the tension to breaking point as the sonics reach fever pitch. Midway hats and a huge snare give the track a new lease on life taking it to warp factor 11.
