Bio
Justine Suissa is a singer and songwriter whose work gives vocal trance much of its human scale: a melody and a few carefully chosen words at the centre of a vast electronic arrangement. Based in London, she is a long-standing collaborator of Above & Beyond and the voice of their OceanLab project.
Her recorded partnerships include Chicane’s Autumn Tactics, Armin van Buuren’s Burned With Desire and Markus Schulz’s Perception. With OceanLab, songs such as Satellite and Clear Blue Water led towards Sirens of the Sea, an album that allowed the group’s writing to reach beyond peak-time club formats. The relationship has continued through Above & Beyond’s own-name releases, including Bigger Than All of Us and When I Look in Your Eyes.
Suissa’s role is not simply to interpret a finished backing track. She writes within the collaborative process, responding to chords and developing words that can connect with a wider audience. In discussing Bigger Than All of Us, she described songwriting as a way to encourage collective change. That sense of shared possibility remains as important to her work as the lift of a chorus.
