About DMX Krew

Bio

DMX Krew is Ed Upton's project for electronic music ranging from electro and synth-pop to funk, house and techno. A relationship with Rephlex from the mid-1990s brought his work to a wider audience, but melody and experimentation have remained more important to him than belonging to one genre. His hands-on interest in instruments began with a battered family piano and a Bontempi organ. It developed into a hardware-centred studio practice that has even included building a drum machine. Upton also releases as EDMX and takes that practical approach into live performance. Although frequently described as an electro artist, he has resisted treating either a genre or a particular era's equipment as a limit on what he can make.
