Bio

Venessa Jackson’s first record came as a prize. At five, she won a dance competition and took home a Kool & the Gang vinyl; in a 2021 interview, the Durban singer recalled deciding that she wanted her own name on one someday. Her mother’s listening—stretching from country and reggae to soul—also shaped a voice that now travels freely through soulful house, disco, funk and Afro house. In the same conversation, Jackson described performing in community shows through school, working underground for years and dating the professional side of her career to an EMI opportunity in 2004. Self-taught, she said she was still learning from new productions arriving each week, following their melodies into unfamiliar keys. A catalogue of more than one hundred credits includes work for King Street Sounds, Quantize, Midnight Riot and Cleveland City, while later releases continue the same collaborative pattern across independent house labels.
