Bio

Aurosonic's progressive and vocal trance puts melody and the human voice at the centre of its sound. Formed by producer Evgeny Smirnov and DJ Sergey Klimov in the mid-2000s, the project brought together two complementary ways of working with electronic music: composing it in the studio and shaping it into sets. Collaborations with singers including Tiff Lacey, Kate Louise Smith and Sharon Valerona have remained a substantial part of that identity, alongside instrumental productions and remixes. Smirnov's account of his early studio practice is notably practical. Asked in a 2008 interview about the equipment behind the sound, he stressed experience rather than elaborate hardware; the setup was built around a laptop, MIDI equipment, monitors and headphones. That emphasis on craft underpins a project that has also explored chillout and other less club-focused forms alongside its trance releases.
