Bio

Nu Ground Foundation often treats one song as a family of rooms: vocal, dub, instrumental, lounge-bar and ‘organapella’ versions can all grow from the same source. Italian DJ-producer Lorenzo Righini created the project in 2016 as a route back to the mechanics of early-1990s garage and underground house. Piano Rules reached Chicago’s S&S Records in 2018 and appeared in a Steve ‘Silk’ Hurley chart that September. Since then, Righini has built an unusually large catalogue of original tracks and remix packages, repeatedly working with names such as Ragged Groove, Class Section, Iza Bel, Illicit Jazz and Lovely Dana. Labels including New Creatures, Joy Department, House For Freedom and Houseledge carry much of that output. The format is part of the aesthetic: extended vocals leave space for songcraft, while dubs, reprises and compact edits expose rhythm, piano and arrangement from different angles. Nu Ground Foundation functions less like a single release cycle than an ongoing workshop in garage-house form.
