About Ryan Crosson

Bio

Ryan Crosson makes house and techno with room for sounds that sit outside either genre. His early musical world was Detroit, where working in close proximity to Lee Curtiss and Seth Troxler helped shape his approach to production. Time in Berlin added another set of influences, while his sampling interests have extended to funk, East African jazz and musique concrète. With Curtiss, Troxler and Shaun Reeves, he co-founded Visionquest, taking a substantial role in the label’s creative direction and day-to-day work. His partnership with Cesar Merveille produced the albums DRM and Cerulean, giving the two a space to follow ideas beyond the needs of a club single. That experimental side also runs through We Can Only Ever Be How We Are, released with the Ridgewood Vanguard on FRNTR. By then based in Brooklyn, Crosson brought together material developed over a decade. His work connects the discipline of making dance records with a willingness to let a collaboration or an unfamiliar sound lead somewhere else.
