Monstercat Silk opened in February 2021 with a single by Shingo Nakamura. Glow was the first release on the imprint Monstercat assembled from the Los Angeles label Silk Music, and Jacob Henry said he had worked with Nakamura since 2009, when Silk's original imprint put out an early track of his. Nakamura, born in Ibaraki Prefecture and settled in Tokyo for about a decade, had already taken his 2011 debut album Sapporo to the top of Beatport's progressive house chart. He told Japan Documented that he fitted all of it around an office job for fifteen years, until an invitation to DJ in Amsterdam forced a choice and he left the job for music full time. The Monstercat run has continued through 2026, with Japanese releases for Otographic Music beside it.
