About East Cafe

Bio

East Cafe is the progressive-house and breakbeat project of Hungarian producer Gábor Kaszás. He places the studio at the centre of his musical life, spending time developing arrangements and finding ways to convey feeling through a track. Releases on Silk, Mistique and Morphosis have received support from selectors including Hernán Cattáneo, John Digweed and Nick Warren. His influences are wider than that label history suggests: Jean-Michel Jarre and Stevie Wonder from his father's record collection, a teenage attachment to metal, then the electronic music of The Prodigy and The Chemical Brothers. Progressive-house compilations helped bring those interests into focus. The name itself comes from an unrealised plan for a daytime café where deep and progressive house would play. The café never opened, but Kaszás kept the name for the music he wanted to make.
