About Mike Shannon

Bio

Mike Shannon says his studio practice grew from the Roland Juno-106 he acquired at sixteen in south-west Ontario. He has also traced his move into modular synthesis to buying a Cwejman S1 in 2009, favouring instruments without presets so that each sound begins from scratch. The Canadian producer founded Cynosure Recordings in Ontario in 1999; the minimal house and techno label later relocated to Berlin. Ryan Crosson and Brett Johnson recur both in Shannon's own credits and among the artists released by Cynosure. His mixdown process also stays partly outside the computer: he sequences in Ableton Live, then routes the music through an outboard VCA desk and an analogue signal chain.
