Steve Huerta once explained that he shortened his artist name simply because “Huerta” looked cooler on a record. The change also marked a useful reset for the California-born producer, who had moved from Los Angeles to Berlin and was refining a supple, groove-led form of house. In a 2013 interview, he recalled that guitar and drums first pulled him into making music; Ableton, software instruments and a deep sample library later became his main studio tools. His catalogue gradually widened beyond club tracks: the 2020 album Junipero and 2023’s TV Slang made room for dub, breakbeat, downtempo and ambient ideas alongside swung house rhythms. At Leizure’s 2020 launch, Huerta described the label as a home for prized tracks he had been holding back.
