Bio

For Deetron, the turntable has always been an instrument, not a playback device. Born Sam Geiser in Bern and raised around the records of his jazz-musician father, he first absorbed hip-hop before Chicago house and Detroit techno redirected his DJing in the early 1990s. That background explains his long-running three-deck method: he layers tracks, edits and acapellas to create spontaneous new versions instead of simply moving from one record to the next. The same balance of precision and looseness shapes his studio work, where analogue synthesizers and live takes keep polished arrangements from becoming clinical. His albums “Twisted” and “Music Over Matter” widened that language beyond club tools. In 2014, he launched Character as a home for his own work and lesser-known artists.
