Bio
Chilean-born DJ and producer Simply City, known offstage as César Romero, has built a distinctive and enduring career within the global progressive house scene. Beginning his journey in Santiago under the alias César “Bass” Romero, he emerged from Chile’s early rave and club culture at a time when the country’s electronic music movement was still taking shape. From the outset, his approach was defined by careful selection, technical precision, and a deep connection to the emotional side of electronic music. His ambition to grow beyond his local scene led him to perform extensively across Latin America, Europe, Asia, and North America, gradually establishing a reputation as a thoughtful and highly experienced DJ. After years of international exploration, César chose Montreal as his creative home, drawn by the city’s rich underground culture and its respect for the art of the dance floor. A defining chapter of his career began in 2012, when he became a resident at Stereo Montreal, one of the world’s most respected underground clubs. For more than a decade, Simply City has been a consistent presence behind its booth, opening for some of the most influential artists in electronic music and delivering extended sets shaped by patience, restraint, and a deep understanding of how to build a musical journey. His performances are rooted in storytelling. Whether crafting a warm-up, guiding an all-night-long set, or setting the tone for a major event, Simply City approaches each opportunity with the same philosophy: allow the music to breathe, respect the flow of the night, and create a genuine connection with the audience. Beyond the DJ booth, Simply City has established himself as a respected producer. His music reflects the same qualities that define his performances: melodic depth, emotional detail, and a commitment to authenticity. His work has earned the attention and support of leading figures in progressive house, most notably Hernan Cattaneo, with whom he has developed a long-standing creative relationship through collaborations, remixes, and original productions. Together, they have achieved multiple Beatport Top 10 progressive house releases, further strengthening Simply City’s position within the genre. As an active member of the Sudbeat family, he has contributed to the label’s legacy through releases and showcase appearances, while continuing to expand his own artistic identity. Over the years, Simply City has remained committed to the values that first drew him to electronic music: consistency, humility, musical integrity, helping newcomers and respect for the dance floor. His career is not defined by trends, but by longevity, discipline, and a clear artistic vision. From Santiago to Montreal and beyond, Simply City continues to carry his sound across the world with purpose: progressive house rooted in emotion, built for the journey, and shaped by more than three decades of experience.
