Patrice Bäumel is an Amsterdam-based DJ and producer whose music brings together techno’s physical intensity and an appetite for unusual sound. His years as a resident at Trouw were central to his development, providing a setting for extended sets and an approach that values surprise as much as precision. “Roar,” released on Get Physical in 2008, helped establish his international career; subsequent work for Kompakt, Afterlife and Watergate and mixes for Global Underground have carried that outlook to a wider audience. Bäumel cites artists as different as Autechre and Andy Stott among his influences. His HALO project brings his production, parties and recorded mixes together, with sets from places such as Stereo Montréal and Boom Festival documenting the long-form side of his DJing.
