Bio

Hernan Cattaneo thinks of a long DJ set as a progressive collage rather than a single genre. Over five or six hours, he has said, deep house, melodic house, techno, tech house and even trance can appear, provided the transitions create a coherent rise and fall. That philosophy grew from Buenos Aires, where he played radio in the early 1990s and became a central resident at Pacha’s Clubland nights, introducing local audiences to visiting DJs while developing his own patient style. Radio remains part of his practice: the weekly “Resident” show gives him a way to share new music, while Sudbeat extends the same curatorial role into a label. Cattaneo has described listening to hours of new submissions every day so he can support younger producers. His approach to progressive house joins scale and restraint: large audiences are guided through slow-building stories, with selection and sequencing valued above spectacle.
