Bio
Jason Merle's house music has roots in both live rhythm and the Bay Area's club culture. Drums caught his attention while watching his stepfather's funk band, leading him through school jazz bands, marching bands and drum corps. Later, time in San Francisco's late-1990s scene deepened an interest in house that had begun in Fresno.
Back in Fresno, he helped build the FOCUS parties and developed a catalogue of deep, sometimes psychedelic house for VIVA, Kolour and Whiskey Pickle, alongside his own 4E&A label. His studio work can turn unlikely material into a record: a guitar lesson became the source for the slowed, edited vocal in Fester. An alternative master of I Believe made for a large mono system shows the other side of that curiosity, paying attention not just to the sounds but to how people will hear them.
