Of course, there was the time The Bearded Man spent New Year’s in Tel Aviv. He’s not quite sure how he got there, but probably it had something to do with being tricked at the airport by a gorgeous flight attendant. In any case, he was there, slightly tipsy on Cabernet (which even he had to admit, was an unusual choice for him), and about to watch the ball drop from his Mediterranean-facing hotel. Suddenly, the channel switched to local coverage of the beach right next to where he was staying. What’s more, in the background of the festivities, he spotted that very same flight attendant partying in the background. “No way!” he thought. Now someone with a lesser beard would have stayed in the hotel, cursing that this woman abandoned him in a foreign land. But his beard has always been thick, full, and proper. He stormed out, walked down to the beach, found the girl, and confronted her. “You ditched me!” He said. “No I didn’t,” was the reply, “I always knew you’d find me here.” After that, she gave him a mischievous wink that would have made a sailor blush. It’s odd, but it’s certainly one of his most defining traits: The Bearded Man somehow *always* ends up exactly where he’s supposed to be, at exactly the right time.
