During the mid-80s and early 90s Movin’ Records defined the New Jersey sound. A skate-shop-turned-record-store run by the so-called “fairy godmother of house” Abigail Adams, Movin’s first output was ‘I’ve Got The Music’ by Boyd Jarvis in 1987, followed by music from game changers Blaze, Kerri Chandler, Tony Humphries and Smack; straight up “Jersey jams” that producers are still attempting to replicate to this day. Still the Movin’ Records catalogue throws up gems that sound super fresh along with plenty of lightbulb moments of musical discovery.  

Ela’n’s ‘Press Your Body’ hit the dance floors of the late 1980’s kicking up a storm. The electro tinged backing track along with Ela’n’s soulful delivery and lyrics is an exciting combination of its time, co-produced by Hippie ‘Turntable Orchestra’ Torrales, assisted by Movin’ Records’ Abigail Adams and Joe ‘Smooth’ Smith. Evoking memories and dreams of Paradise Garage and Club Zanzibar, this is the raw and soulful sound of New Jersey in the late 80s. For the indie soul collectors, check out the bonus track, No Mercy, an undiscovered gem.
