Founded in 2002 by DJ Gregory, Faya Combo gets a new lease of life with the re-issue of those classic records coupled with some previously unreleased, rare, and more obscure cuts have been sourced and compiled, highlighting this sublime catalogue of work, while bringing it to the attention of a wider and more diverse audience.

French born DJ Gregory began his explorations into house music in the early 90s when he was making pilgrimages to New York City to soak up the city’s music scene, bringing back with him the freshest dance music from the nucleus of American house. He made a name for himself as a DJ influenced by these imported beats, appearing regularly on Radio FG in collaboration with DJ Deep. Following several successful records in his fledgling production career, including his project Africanism with Bob Sinclar on Yellow Productions, Gregory set up Faya Combo as an outlet for his unique productions. Many releases from Faya Combo have striking Afro and Latin flavours, influences sustained by DJ Gregory’s travels to Brazil and Angola to work with local artists in those regions.

The second volumes of the ‘Faya Combo Cuts’ series showcases two tracks, ‘Work Me’ which brings a heavy dose of hypnotic tribal drums and vocal chants, and ‘Traffic’ which carries a funky melodic groove. In addition are two versions of ‘Traffic’ that first appeared on the Defected presents Faya Combo compilation from 2008; DJ Gregory’s ‘Late Night Pass’ and Moroccan producer Amnaye Nhas’ remix which adds a darker more techy vibe to the track.
