Osunlade

Here’s another classic from the vaults of Yoruba Records, as their very first release is made available digitally for the first time. Osunlade’s debut release on his label is a typically diverse affair, giving just a hint of what was to come on this impressive and critically acclaimed label. The title track has tribal chanting underpinned with a driving house rhythm, giving an early insight to the spiritual influences that underpin much of his work. The jazzier side of things is at play on the other two tracks - ‘Cosmic Shout’ is an up tempo groove with an almost gospel edge, whilst the epic ‘Ochun’s Arrival’ is the sound of those hazy, lazy summer afternoons spent in the park encapsulated in 13 minutes of aural bliss. This release is a classic that is well worth investigating again and again.
