"Incognito is a DJ and producer from Nelson, New Zealand. NZ is proving to be one of the most interesting, and most vibrant parts of the drum & bass universe in 2015, and the latest release on Dutty Audio, the Shadow Funk EP, is even more evidence of this. Starting out back in 2007, Incognito put the hours into his production and DJing, and is now one of the rising stars of the scene. Bringing new, fresh sounds to the table, his hard work and dedication is paying off with releases on some of the biggest labels around. None bigger than Dutty, who present DAUDIO023, the Shadow Funk EP.

Shadow Funk is as dark and menacing as its title suggests, building slowly to convert into some seriously dirty beats n' bass, as Incognito gets low early. Feel the funk flow over you as the track develops. A major way to start off the EP, which is soon followed by the kick and stealth of Debris. Again, Incognito opens his imagination in the intro, layering sound and feeling in ever increasing intensity. He then lays down the bass after the drop, rattling your speakers and scrambling your brain. This one is a heavy headnodder, and no mistake.

Nothing'll prepare you for the voyage of Priorities. A light, floating intro soon descends into levels of madness, as Incognito ramps up the levels, booming out the low end, whilst the live-sounding drums sit under the airy synths and sweeping samples. A track which works on a number of levels, and hits home every time. Closing things out is the soulful, evocative No More, which rolls and breaks around some beautiful vocal sampling. Let this one seep into your bones, as Incognito proves that there is a lot more to his sound than might initially reveal itself. He is a serious musician, capable of anything he turns his hand to.
