DJ Ruffneck is Patrick van Kerckhoven, the Dutch producer and DJ closely associated with the development of artcore. His musical beginnings lie in Chicago house and Detroit electronic music, which he encountered before taking up DJing as a teenager. Hardcore became his principal language, while a succession of aliases—including Wedlock, Knightvision and Juggernaut—gave him different outlets within it.

He founded Ruffneck Records in 1993, building an enduring connection between his own productions and a wider community of hardcore artists. Enzyme, launched in 2001, extended that work, with van Kerckhoven also spending substantial time behind the scenes developing its roster. His interests have reached into drum and bass, industrial music and hard techno without displacing the artcore identity at the centre of his DJ career.
