Bio
Phillosopher is Philip Surrett’s project for progressive and organic house, built around melody, atmosphere and a long involvement in live music. Before concentrating on DJing and production, he played keyboards and designed synthesizer sounds in an electronic jam band. Early Phillosopher performances used live looping, hardware and a drummer, giving him experience of shaping electronic material on stage. His later club work has included Boston’s Middle East and Atlanta’s District, where he supported Paul van Dyk. Releases through labels such as Droid9, Balkan Connection and Kodai accompany that performing career. He also presents Mindwarp, a series that introduces new music and regional talent. For Surrett, musical exploration is increasingly about honest expression and emotional openness, rather than fitting a trend or proving technical complexity.
