Bio

Groof is Roberto Gemelín, a Madrid producer, DJ and live performer whose techno favours tightly sequenced rhythms, machine funk and a science-fiction atmosphere. His work reaches back to Minifunk releases in the late 1990s and includes recordings for Warm Up and Nheoma. Under the separate Robert Calvin name, he explored another part of his electronic vocabulary with releases for Turbo. A five-year stint at Madrid's Stardust also formed part of his club background. His recent Tilt EP for Lotus Parable offers a useful glimpse of his studio approach: most tracks developed without a fixed concept, leaving interpretation open to the listener. Maar was the exception, dedicated to the surrealist artist Dora Maar.
