Bio

Will Atkinson treats trance as a starting point for a much wider musical appetite. The Glasgow-based producer combines its melodic intensity with techno, house, breaks and harder club sounds, an openness he traces to hearing Judge Jules on Radio 1 while growing up in Orkney. Early encouragement from Jules helped bring his productions to radio, but Atkinson’s identity has remained tied to the detailed, sometimes unruly music he wants to hear himself. His debut album Last King of Scotland widened that perspective beyond the dancefloor, bringing together collaborators including Paul van Dyk, Gary Go and JES. Atkinson has described melodies arriving in dreams, on airport floors and in hotel rooms, with personal experience often providing the strongest ideas. He marked the album’s release with a performance at Glasgow’s former Arches, a club central to his own education as a dancer. Alongside his work with Subculture and VII, more recent releases for doof keep the connection to Scottish dancefloors close, pairing his production precision with an unabashed appetite for a big night out.
