Robert Babicz’s work connects the acid techno he made as Rob Acid in the early 1990s with a broader world of melodic electronic music, sound design and live improvisation. For the Malta-based producer, technical detail serves an emotional purpose: his own presentation places music alongside photography as different expressions of the same creative life. Onstage, he works with synthesisers and other equipment rather than treating performance as a DJ set, responding to the room and allowing unexpected sounds to change its course. That practice grew from his early Rob Acid shows, when he would build material for a performance and discard it afterwards. His catalogue includes long relationships with Systematic and Bedrock as well as his own Babiczstyle label.
