Founded in 2004, the simple principal was delivering the funk with engaging music that always rocks the dance floors, regardless of genre. Started by two of the label's key artists, Mooqee & Beatvandals, each release had to be a bomb! This ethos continued throughout the initial vinyl based volume series and as the label evolved alongside the changing digital landscape, helping to develop a global funk and mid tempo scene along the way.

It's crazy to think how much the label has grown and now works with artists and partners from around the globe. Alongside individual artist releases Bombstrike is also home to the much loved Funk n' Beats, Disco Funkin' and Bass Funk compilation series, with guest curators helping the listener discover new music or unearth forgotten classics.

We continue to push things forward with everything we do, whether it is releases, festival stages or club nights....We always do it with our same founding ideals and will continue to do what we do best. Watch this space.

Bombstrikes

First Word Records was born in 2003 as a collaboration between myself (Aly Gillani - at that time a club promoter) and deejay Andy H. Frustrated by not seeing the music we loved get the exposure it deserved, we decided that there was a gap that needed filling. As the year came to an end a group of musicians, deejays, designers, emcees and producers had come together to cook up the fresh new sound of "Two Syllables", our debut compilation that was released in April 2004, preceded by a split 12" from Homecut Directive (ft Corinne Bailey Rae) and Tommy Evans.

Since then, the label has grown to house numerous artists, including Children Of Zeus, Tawiah, Kaidi Tatham, Allysha Joy, Eric Lau, Darkhouse Family, Tall Black Guy, Souleance and Quiet Dawn. The sound of our output has developed as we have as individuals – but the foundation is rooted in Hip Hop, Jazz and Soul.  This is music that's equally at home in the clubs as it is leaking out of your late-night headphones. Like Duke Ellington said - "If it sounds good, it is good".
