Since 1997 when Kasey Taylor founded Vapour Recordings, the label has gone on and forged itself an enviable reputation, not only as one of Australia’s leading independent dance labels, but the worlds too.

When you feast your ears upon a new Vapour Recordings Ep, think of it as forward thinking dance music. If there is one defining feature of a Vapour record, it’s that it is just a little ahead of its time. The sort of tune that the average person might put back on the shelf, and then later on hear it out in a club and kick themselves because they didn’t realise how damn good it really was at first listen, and because they knew they had just let a gem of a tune slip right through their fingers.

July 2011 saw the label reach it’s landmark 100th release. The clock was wound back for this one choosing artists from the past, present and future to remix the back catalogue. The package contained some fantastic names, with remixes from the likes of Guy J, Hernan Cattaneo, Luis Junior, Jamie Stevens, Peter Horrevorts, Nick Warren, Dousk, Rodskeez, Fiord and many more.

There are DJs in the world who have vision. Those who can pick up a sound before it becomes popular and break it to the masses. Names like John Digweed & Hernan Cattaneo spring to mind, and Vapour releases have always found their way into the record boxes and charts of these luminaries. They are attributes that Kasey Taylor has also.

It isn’t easy to turn heads in the underground dance music scene when you are a small record label operating from the ass end of the universe! It’s harder to slip promos to DJs and radio station reps, magazine editors and so on. There’s seldom a chance to drop your own track in front of the big name DJs to prove just how effective your music can be. With that in mind, it’s a real credit that Vapour Recordings has earned a spot as premiere labels on the global market, commanding the attention of all the industry heavy weights through nothing more than releasing quality tunes. 3rd Avenue is an electronic music imprint which operates under the Sound Avenue umbrella. As the Belgian imprint continued to grow and diversify its output 3rd Avenue was created to focus on the more traditional progressive house sounds which ultimately spawned Sound Avenue’s beginnings. The labels initial releases from Blusoul, Lautaro Varela, Matias Chilano and Progress Inn forged a strong blueprint which still holds true today. Now six years since the labels inception 3rd Avenue has built a healthy artist roster which includes Nicolas Rada, Hot Tuneik, Paul Angelo & Don Argento, Mir Omar, Namatjira and Michael & Levan and Stiven Rivic. The label’s ‘We Are The Future’ compilation series has long been one of the best showcases of new and undiscovered artists. The year was 1997, and the great tree of electronic dance music continued to expand and split into various branches and their native tribes. Psychedelic trance was in full swing, with its staccato kick drums, high BPMs, and consciousness-expanding synth patterns. To some, it was more than a music style - it represented a way of life. Thus it was for Emok and Banel, two young Danish DJ/producers who fully leaned in and came together in Copenhagen to establish what would become one of the longest lasting and most universally respected labels in the psy-trance underground. Ace Ventura, Liquid Soul, Captain Hook, just some of the superstars of the scene that have been loyal mainstays on the label's release calendar over the years, but never detracting from the label's ethos of developing new artists through unity, collaboration, and steadfast support. In 2022, Emok and Banel still wake up every day thinking about their core values of connection, passion and ultimately a zest for life. And of course: heart-racing, foot-stomping, and mind-expanding beats!
