AgainstMe approaches techno as a shared physical experience, using insistent drums, distorted melodic fragments and hypnotic repetition to connect a room. The Greek artist, known as Kostas, developed the project after encounters with the rave scene on Lesvos in 2016. Now based in Berlin, he works with modular instruments and Ableton, looking for unusual patterns and textures through experimentation.
His performances have included Athens' Temple and Berlin's Suicide Club and ://about blank. Alongside releases on Subsist, Warok and VOXNOX, he co-founded Society 3000 and became a core member of USM. The name AgainstMe also carries a personal meaning: in a Home of Sound interview, he linked it to questioning his own ego. That concern with self-awareness sits alongside the communal purpose he sees in a techno gathering.
