Biografia

CamelPhat’s apparent breakthrough concealed more than a decade of work. Liverpool DJs Dave Whelan and Mike Di Scala met through the city’s 3 Beat record shop, produced under a string of names and first used CamelPhat around 2010. Early on they wore wrestling masks, hoping listeners would judge the records without attaching them to the pair’s previous projects. The disguise eventually disappeared, but the patience remained. Their 2017 Elderbrook collaboration “Cola” became an international crossover and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Dance/Electronic Recording, while the 2020 debut album “Dark Matter” placed that success inside a broader, collaboration-heavy body of work. The duo have continued to connect club scale with song-based writing rather than treating the two as opposites. CamelPhat’s story is therefore less an overnight rise than the outcome of aliases, residencies, record-shop knowledge and years of studio trial before the public name finally stuck.
