Biografia
Harvey McKay was a Glasgow techno producer whose music combined weight, tension and a detailed approach to sound. His early connection with the city’s club culture led to releases on Artificial Silence and then Soma, the label run by Slam. He went on to record for Drumcode, Cocoon, Bedrock and Second State, carrying his sound beyond the Scottish scene.
His 2022 album Anatomy of a Drum Machine offered a particularly direct view of his production. Given freedom by Kneaded Pains, he set himself the task of building sounds from raw analogue synthesis, without relying on presets or ready-made loops. It was a return to the fundamentals of making electronic music and a way to explore the character of the machines themselves.
McKay died in May 2026. His recorded work remains a substantial part of his contribution, spanning club-focused techno and the more concentrated studio exploration of that album.
