Biografia
Acidulant is Neil Hales, a Maltese producer and performer with a deep attachment to the sound of the TB-303. His music moves between acid house, electro and techno, drawing on discoveries made in his uncle's record collection, including Kraftwerk and Egyptian Lover. Plastikman's Sheet One became another important reference in that early musical education.
His studio practice combines hardware and software, with modular synthesis informing his techno and electro work and instruments such as the Korg Radias contributing to more ambient material. Releases have connected him with Balkan Vinyl, I Love Acid and R&S.
Other projects give those interests different forms: Collateral Intelligence explores cinematic sound design, while RAIM is a partnership with Sound Synthesis. As a co-founder of Electronic Music Malta and an educator, Hales also works to make electronic music a shared activity beyond his own records and performances.
