Douglas Greed makes electronic music with the curiosity of someone whose interests were never confined to a straight kick drum. Hip-hop, breakbeat and drum and bass formed part of his background as both listener and party organiser, while darker pop music also entered the picture. That range runs through his connection with Jena's Freude am Tanzen and records for BPitch, where club tracks share space with songs and more reflective material.
A graduate of the Bauhaus university in Weimar, he has also worked in graphic design and radio plays. Live performance has brought singers and musicians into his electronic world, and partnerships with Fabian Kuss as Yeah But No and Mooryc as Eating Snow give distinct forms to his collaborative interests.
His studio accounts reveal a dry sense of humour alongside that breadth. He has joked about expensive equipment serving unexpectedly mundane purposes, while recalling the record player his parents gave him at sixteen as an important tool for learning to mix and scratch. The curiosity about what can be done with sound remains more important than a fixed role or format.
