Biografia

Digital is Steve Carr, an Ipswich producer whose jungle and drum and bass carry the influence of a lifelong connection to reggae sound systems. He grew up around his father's system and later hired it out to local rave promoters, encountering the music that would redirect his own studio work. Photek helped him establish an early studio, and releases on Timeless in 1995 introduced tracks including Touch Me and Spacefunk. A relationship with Metalheadz followed, alongside music for Moving Shadow, Photek Productions and Creative Source. Breakbeats and dub-informed bass remained central to that work. His own Function Records provides a further outlet for solo productions and collaborations, including work with Tim Clay and Charla Green. Running the platform extends a career that began with the practical business of bringing a sound system into a room.
