Biografia

Planetary Assault Systems is Luke Slater's long-running exploration of techno at its most physical and hypnotic. Within a career spread across several aliases, this project is the outlet for forceful percussion, restless machine funk and the psychedelic possibilities of repetition. Its intensity is inseparable from groove: the rhythms push hard while small changes in texture and pattern continually alter the space around them. Slater came to electronic music after playing drums, becoming involved in London's clubs and the early British rave scene before his first releases in 1989. Planetary Assault Systems emerged in the following decade through the Planetary Funk series on Peacefrog. Later work for Ostgut Ton and his own Mote-Evolver extended the project well beyond that first era, while live performances made it a continuing presence in techno clubs and festivals. The focus is deliberate rather than restrictive. Slater has described keeping his different creative impulses separate, allowing each project to develop its own character. Where The 7th Plain explores ambient space and L.B. Dub Corp takes a looser, dub-informed route, Planetary Assault Systems concentrates on the charged relationship between pulse, sound and a room full of dancers.
