Biografia
Alexander Johansson's work belongs to a long-running Swedish techno partnership with Mattias Fridell. Their first joint record appeared in 2000, followed by releases on labels including Audio Assault and ARMS, and later their own outlet, Lømsk Records. The collaboration joins an interest in purposeful rhythm with synth sequences that can turn playful or take an unexpected direction.
Their methods grew from making the most of whatever equipment was available: keyboards, guitar pedals, a cassette deck and a DJ mixer preceded computers and a Roland MC-303. That habit of experimentation continues alongside a willingness to revisit old ideas. The album Skrammel & Banks includes a vocal sample from their first live set in 2002, brought into a new arrangement years later. For Johansson and Fridell, a studio archive is still material to work with, not simply a record of the past.
