Biografia
Growing up on a diet of punk, grunge, and industrial, Moe Espinoza originally cut his teeth playing in local L.A. hardcore bands before attending his first rave in 1995, an experience that changed his perspective on music. After buying a drum machine and starting work at a recording studio in Hollywood, he shifted his songwriting focus to dance music, making full use of the studio’s collection of classic synths and Roland drum machines.
Following a handful of releases on various labels, Espinoza co-founded the Droid Behavior collective in 2001 alongside Vangelis and Vidal Vargas (aka Raíz), aiming to ignite the techno scene in Los Angeles. Under the name Drumcell, he released his debut Genetix EP on the collective’s label, Droid Recordings, in 2003. Over the following years, DJing, production work, and the steady growth of the Droid collective continued, with the label releasing not only Drumcell material but also works by artists such as Audio Injection, Dustin Zahn, and Acid Circus.
In 2009, Drumcell and Audio Injection released the collaborative Cell Injection EP, which received strong support in DJ sets from artists including Speedy J and Chris Liebing. This led to a close working relationship with Liebing and Espinoza’s first release on CLR in 2012, the Split Structure EP with Brian Sanhaji. The following year saw the release of Drumcell’s debut album Sleep Complex, alongside the single Disturbance. Several further releases followed, including Departing Comfort, before Espinoza shifted focus toward his more experimental and ambient project Hypoxy1a and the label Bl_k Noise. The Flux EP, featuring Luis Flores, appeared in 2016, followed in 2017 by the various-artists release Negative 2_Part 1.
