Acid Pauli is Martin Gretschmann’s open-ended approach to electronic music: a place for psychedelic club sets, sampling, improvisation and collaborations that reach well beyond the dance floor. The Berlin-based musician first played bass in punk and indie bands, developed electronic work as Console and spent 1997–2014 with The Notwist. Since introducing Acid Pauli in 2000, he has taken the project to clubs and festivals internationally. His DJ performances can combine several tracks with live edits, allowing familiar songs and unlikely sources to become part of a new musical sequence. That flexibility also shapes his collaborations, from playing with traditional musicians in Jodhpur to improvising music for Sasha Waltz’s “Dialoge 2020 – Radialsystem.” Albums, film and radio scores, ambient performances and the All Is Acid label extend the same curiosity into other forms. The common thread is an interest in what sounds can do together, rather than a commitment to one genre or performance format.
