The Red Hed

‌

Biografia

The Red Hed is Jim Sullivan, the producer whose long-running partnership with Vinylgroover connects hard house, hard trance and techno. The two met through Fusion Records and began working together in a Portsmouth studio, developing tracks for Nukleuz and Tidy as well as their Traffic imprint. Collaborations with Rob Tissera and Anne Savage became part of that shared repertoire; Sullivan also contributed guitar to the Savage collaboration Pay Attention. Their work extends beyond forceful club originals. As Kontakt, Sullivan and Vinylgroover made Show Me a Sign, a vocal adaptation of Binary Finary's 1998 that grew out of an unplanned studio combination of lyrics and melody. Their approach to K90's Red Snapper was more restrained: they retained its defining riff and strings while changing the surrounding production. This willingness to switch between reinterpretation and preservation sits alongside a working relationship built on broad musical tastes and returning to unfinished ideas when they are ready.
