Natural sound is part of the musical language of Approaching Black, the project of composer and producer Shannon Riches. Recordings of wildlife, water and rain sit within his piano, synthesizer and percussion arrangements, connecting his melodic electronic music to the world outside the studio. Roxy Music's Avalon helped spark his interest in synthesized sound, while glam-rock guitar and Enigma later added other points of reference. His relationship with Silk has encompassed the expansive Dusk album and collaborations with Shingo Nakamura, Sound Quelle and vocalist Brandon Mignacca. Make You Mine, featuring Indi Starling, explores attraction and love alongside his recurring interest in nature. Through Rewoven's releases and guest mixes, he also works across melodic house and downtempo.
