Héctor Sandoval remembers an acid-house cassette arriving in 1988, when he was about eleven: its metallic repetition first sounded impenetrable, then became impossible to stop replaying. That fascination with repetition eventually took a distinct form in Tensal, the solo project he launched in 2014 after years working as half of Exium with Valentín Corujo and pursuing more abstract electronics as Komatssu. Tensal concentrates Sandoval’s fast, functional and hypnotic vision of techno. In a 2023 interview, he explained that a track typically starts with an analogue synthesizer sequence—he used a Waldorf Iridium for The New Land Order—before percussion, processing and digital mixing enter the picture. Early lettered releases on his own Tensal label led to records for PoleGroup, Soma, BPitch and ARTS. The continuing catalogue, including Renovatio, keeps that method focused on rhythmic utility while allowing texture and tension to carry the narrative.
