Bio
Inspired by early rave, jungle, and breakbeat pioneers like The KLF, The Prodigy,
Goldie & DJ Randall, Jay began collecting vinyl and bought his first decks at age
14.
Jay bagged his first radio appearance on Vision FM in 1995. Since then, he’s had
mixes on various shows, including Reprezent Radio, Breaks FM and Ministry
of Sound Radio.
Jay has also created a series of DJ mixes for Superdry’s UK stores and has edited a
DnB Classics mix for Concrete Junglists.
His ear for a great mix has seen Jay win several DJ competitions, including Ministry
of Sounds ‘Annual DJ’ and the ‘Underneath the Shadows’ comp for Viper Recordings.
As a DJ, Jay has played at some of the country’s top venues/promoters,
including Ministry of Sound, Brixton Academy, Heaven and Jungle Cakes.
On the production front, his track ‘GIVE IT UP’, which featured vocals from Andrea
Britton, entered the Top 10 for the DJ Mag Breaks & Beats Chart and received
BBC Radio 1 airplay for four weeks running.
‘FOLLOW WE’, which featured The Ragga Twins was Jay’s first foray into Drum and
Bass production was snapped up by Brighton-based Tru Thoughts Records.
He has since remixed Lightninghead and has released two
tracks on his own label, Darkside Bass. He has also produced a track with Mad
Sam on vocals, due for release on Bristol based Raider Records.
