Daniel Meister can trace his electronic-music turning point to a small room with a good sound system. In an interview, the Pécs producer recalled wandering into a club’s house room, hearing Julian Jeweil’s “Air Conditionné” and, for the first time, feeling the music physically instead of merely hearing it. He began DJing in 2008 and moved into production around 2012, gradually shaping a sound that he half-jokingly calls “progressive minimal”: rominimal economy joined to melodic, synthesizer-led movement. Meister says the work improved when he stopped writing to satisfy other people and began making tracks for himself. A strong party can send him back to the studio, but a single melody or vocal may also provide the first spark.
