Osunlade’s house music is inseparable from a search for balance. Raised in St. Louis, he taught himself piano, drums, bass and guitar while young, then moved to Los Angeles in the late 1980s and worked as a producer inside the commercial music business. Disillusionment with that system led to a break and a spiritual journey toward Ifá and Yoruba traditions. When he returned to releasing music, he founded Yoruba Records in 1999 as an independent platform where faith, live musicianship and deep house could meet on his own terms. Osunlade has described his aim not as flashiness but as finding notes that physically move a listener’s vibration. That principle runs through his original albums, Yoruba Soul remixes and collaborations: percussion carries memory, harmony creates space, and the dancefloor becomes communal rather than merely functional.
