In August 2012 Good For You Records, the label Kenny Summit runs, released his own Why Me featuring Daryl D'Bonneau, a single that shipped with a Directors Cut mix by Frankie Knuckles and Eric Kupper. In an interview that June he said he had finished a few early tracks with help from mentors, decided it was time to make a record of his own, and had just taken Kupper on as his full-time production partner. His name sits beside those two again on a version of Lou Rawls' You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine, cut by the three of them, which stayed unreleased for years while listeners chased it after Knuckles aired the record at Boiler Room, until Good For You put it out on a compilation. More than a decade on, his own singles still land on the label.
