Before he built house tracks, Gorge learned rhythm and harmony with his hands. The Mannheim musician born Peter Felix Waldmann—also known as Pit Waldmann—started on drums and piano, then changed direction as electronic dance music gathered momentum around the end of the 1980s. That instrumental grounding still makes sense of his productions: percussion carries the motion, while chords and bass provide warmth without crowding the groove. Gorge co-founded 8bit Records with Nick Curly after years of crossing paths in Mannheim’s nightlife, and he also developed Katchuli as another outlet for his work. His long-running collaboration with Markus Homm shows the same preference for patient, functional arrangements rather than quick effects. Across deep house and tech house, Gorge’s signature is less a fixed genre than a musician’s sense of timing—knowing what to add, what to leave out and how long a rhythm needs to breathe.
